FM statement: Syria Condemns Financing Terrorism Under any Pretext, Urges UN SC to Assume Responsibilities

DAMASCUS,(ST)  An official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said that Syria has seriously followed up during the past period risks faced by the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF ) in the occupied Golan, while performing its tasks by some armed terrorist organizations including al-Nusra Front.

In a statement yesterday, the source said that Syria which confirmed its respect for the UN mission in the framework of its international obligations, realized that the kidnapping cases, for the first time about a year ago against the Philippine Battalion and recently against Fijian personnel came at the direct support of Qatar which has financing and arming relations with an-Nusra front terrorist organization.

The source continued that while the Syrian Government emphasizes that the kidnapping of UNDOF personnel is an unforgivable crime, it also wants to emphasize that al-Nusra Front criminals are unable to do such acts without Qatar’s direct encouragement and its willingness to pay millions of US dollars under the pretext of exerting efforts for the release of the abducted UNDOF soldiers.

The source added that as Syria condemns financing terrorism under any pretext, in line with the provisions of UNSC resolutions  1373 and 2170, provide for fighting terrorism and stop its funding, it calls on the UNSC to assume its responsibilities and stop the Qatari practices which violate the international law and relevant UNSC resolutions.
