Flooding of the Toura River in the Rabweh region of Damascus

According to the Director of Maintenance in Damascus Governorate, Engineer Ghassan al-Khatib, the flooding of the Toura River in Damascus, which is one of the branches of the Barada River, is caused by the rapidly melting snow of the last season because of high temperatures.

Al-Khatib explained that the melting of snow had significantly raised the river level, as well as the discharge by the General Establishment for Drinking Water of surplus warehouses within the Toura River stream. This led to an increase in the river’s abundance and caused a flood in the Rabweh area and the flow of water on the public road for limited time .

Al-Khatib noted that the directorate’s river workshops had diverted much of the Toura River’s water to the course of the Barada River, stressing that immediate treatment had taken place and traffic had returned.
