A society has a memory that includes its customs, traditions, heritage and rituals that parents pass on to their children because it is their deep-rooted identity and the spirit of their society and culture.
In the village of Al-Marah in the Qalamoun Mountains in the countryside of Damascus, farmers started harvesting their Damascene rose.
Due to the fact that the revival of heritage constitutes a continuation of life and adherence to identity, the First Lady, Mrs. Asma Al-Assad has been caring for and supporting those who adhere to the heritage. Today, she joined the people in Al-Marah village in picking their Damascene rose, the jewel of their life and the icon of their continued livelihood.
Ladies of the Diplomatic Club in Syria, cultural and artistic figures and personalities concerned with preserving the Syrian heritage also joined the people picking the roses.
The rose, which was registered on UNESCO’s human heritage lists in 2019, is cultivated on larger areas and in many towns and regions, year after year, from Damascus countryside to Hama, Aleppo, and other provinces so that the rose remains an image of Syria’s heritage and a source of production and life for its growers.
