First Lady Meets, Congratulates Winners of Syrian Scientific Olympiad

DAMASCUS- First Lady, Mrs. Asma Al-Assad on Monday met and congratulated the winners of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad, the competitions of which were held in Damascus yesterday.

Though Syria is facing a heinous terrorist war, it keeps encouraging initiatives, distinguished academic performance and innovation.

Earlier in the day, under the patronage of Mrs. Asma Al-Assad, a ceremony was held on Monday at Dar al-Assad for Culture and Arts in Damascus to honor and award the winners of the first places in the final competition of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and IT.

  In a speech during the ceremony, Head of the National Commission for the Syrian Scientific Olympiad Imad al-Azab said that this event is a new beginning in the march of the Syrian excellence and innovation, SANA reported.

Al-Azab said that the National Commission for the Syrian Scientific Olympiad reflects President Bashar al-Assad’s vision in achieving quality and creativity in the national scientific, educational, and research tracks through building human capabilities as intellectual resources and providing the environment to relay, produce, and spread knowledge.

The top ten students in each category received laurel wreaths and certificates, while the top three students received gold, silver, and bronze medals.

Mohammad al-Hafi, Eli Eshua, and Ahmad Khamis won the top three places in maths, respectively, while the winners in physics are Fadi Barakat, Zeineddin Hassan, and Karam al-Qintar and in chemistry the top three are Bayan al-Assi, Rayan Sibaee, and Hussein Qadi.

In IT, the top three students are Ahmad Haidar, Tamer Imad, and Jaafar Totenji, and in biology the top three are Hani Nassour, Lujain al-Lahham, and Nour Haidar.

The top-ranking students said that their participation in the Olympiad was an opportunity for self-development and to represent their country abroad, describing it as a remarkable experience and voicing hope of winning in international competitions.

The ceremony included the screening of a documentary on the Syrian Science Olympiad and a performance by Luna choir.
