LATTAKIA, (ST)- The First “Droub Tishreen Cycling Race” concluded on Tuesday after completing its third and final stage in the Jubet Burghal village in Lattakia countryside.
The top three winners of the four categories- veteran cyclists, men, youths and women – were honored at the race site.
Cyclist Mohammad al-Turk from Damascus countryside won the first position for the veteran category, while Ibrahim al-Safarani from Aleppo and Abdullah Marli from Lattakia came second and third consecutively.
For the men category, Yousef Srouji from Aleppo came first while Mustafa Abdul Qader and Tammam Nweiser occupied the second and third positions consecutively
For the youths category, cyclist Al- Mouselli from Damascus won the first position, while Zakarayya al-Kharrat and Adeeb Thabet from Lebanon came second and third.
As for the women category, the first position went to the Russian cyclist Alvera Mokhyodinova while Sham Huzeifa from Sweida and Ranim Sleiman from Tartous ranked second and third.
Some of the winners talked to SANA about the spirit of enthusiasm that prevailed during the race from its beginning in the light of the participation of Arab and foreign competitors.
They called for repeating this event in the coming years in different areas of the charming Syrian countryside so that it becomes an annual event that is concerned in encouraging sports and tourism and promoting Syria’s wonderful tourist sites.
The race, which is the first of its kind in Syria, has received wide international, Arab and local media coverage due to the messages it carries about Syria’s recovery after the victories achieved by the Syrian Arab army over terrorism and about Syria’s tourist destinations and traditions.
The second stage of the race, witnessed the cyclists’ participation in an agricultural event during which they planted many trees in some of the sites that have been recently exposed to fires, including the Shuh and Cedar Reserve, which is among the most important natural reserves in Syria.
During the three days of the race, which was organized by the General Sports Federation in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, cyclists passed through several wonderful villages in the countryside of Lattakia.
