First Batch of  Displaced Families From  Northern Regions Arrives in Damascus

Damascus – (ST) – The first batch of families, which were displaced by the former regime from Damascus countryside during the past years of war to the northern regions, arrived in Damascus on Wednesday. A celebration was held on this occasion at Umayyad Square.

The event was held within the Droub Al-Sham (Damascus Paths) initiative organized by  Shamout Commercial Group in cooperation with the civil society.

The batch includes about 58 families coming from northern Aleppo and Idlib who have habitable homes in Eastern Ghouta in the Damascus countryside.

Coordinator of the initiative, Mohammad Baybars Al-Zein, said in a statement to a SANA correspondent that “Damascus Paths ” aims to return about 2,000 families to their homes, with the possibility of increasing the number according to the available capabilities,. He noted that priority has been given to families whose homes are suitable for residence.

Osama Sateh, representative of the Shamout Commercial Group, the organizer of the initiative, explained in a press statement that work was done to secure several buses to transport these families and return them to their homes in the towns of the Damascus countryside after their absence for more than 10 years.

A number of families appreciated the victory achieved by the Syrian revolution over the defunct regime and they also appreciated all the governmental and societal initiatives and efforts to return families to their homes after long years of forced displacement imposed by the criminal regime.
