Firefighter Tamer Dabbas, the rescuer of the Civil Registry Department in Sabaa Bahrat neighborhood, Aleppo

As part of the “This Is My Story” Contest, organized by the “Wathiqat Watan” (Homeland Document) Foundation annually, firefighter Tamer Dabbas starred in his inspiring story entitled “The Fire of the Civil Registry Department Building in Sabaa Bahrat of Aleppo.”

Dabbas said in a statement to SANA that the firefighters have a lot of memories and experiences that they like to share with people. Although some experiences are painful, others carry benefit and hope.

Dabbas explained that the contest offered him the opportunity to write part of what he experienced, namely the story of “The Fire of Al-Noufos Building in Al-Sabaa Bahrat Neighborhood of Aleppo,” for which he received the Silver Award in 2019.

In his story, Dabbas depicted how he and his friends desperately tried to extinguish this phenomenal fire, despite all attempts by armed terrorist organizations to weaken their resolve.

They were ready to sacrifice their lives and fight the burning fire, saving what could be saved despite the seriousness of the situation and the terrorists who did not stop shooting in an attempt to stop the firefighting operation.

Dabbas and his team showed unparalleled determination and courage. After many hours of continuous work, they managed to control and extinguish the fire, preventing the aggravation of human and material losses.

Wathiqat Watan Foundation launched the “This Is My Story” Award for the first time in the summer of 2019 to spread awareness of the importance of oral documentation and enrich the National Knowledge Archive with realistic oral narratives witnessed by the writers themselves.
