Find Your Passion and Seek It
Finding one’s passion isn’t an easy work, particularly under eventful days of job that take a lot of one’s time and energy. Sometimes it takes long years for one to figure out what his/her passion is, but, as one of the proverbs say: ” better late than never”.
“Find your passion and seek it” is an important message expressed by Syrian artist Lama al-Hassanieh in her first solo photography exhibition “EUREKA” ( I find it), currently taking place at Khan Asa’ad Basha in ancient Damascus under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, General-Directorate of Antiquities and Museums.
The exhibition, which was opened on September 16th and will continue till September 26th, showcases 30 artworks in different themes shedding light on terrorism war against the Syrians.
According to the artist, the exhibition is a bid as to overstep those awful memories by transforming them into artwork. It as well exposes artistically edited pictures in an attempt to meet the audience needs and open new horizons.
Interviewed by Syriatimes e-newspaper, artist Lama said that the exhibits, which took four years of work, depict various themes inspired by the local environment such as war, homelessness and several humanitarian cases.
The photos seized meaningful moments in our life, the situation of people during the crisis, hope, the misery of homeless people, the horizon, the sea and the need to be alone, Lama told Syriatimes, noting that everything has a special meaning.
“Each photo carries a different story and transforms my vision towards life in a philosophical way. The images, which brought contrasts, are the embodiment of deep ideas not the reality as it is,” Lama said. “I tried to insert painting in the photos using Photoshop technique to reflect the integration of reality with imagination, because my aim is to present my ideas, She added. For example: one of the photos shows Children and tells the story of generations who are living peace and war at the same time, but without losing hope”
The artist has chosen Khan Asa’ad Pasha to hold her exhibition due to the importance of this attractive historic place which has high cultural value.
“In my first Solo Exhibition I want to present deeper ideas in my works in a professional way, so I chose the title “EUREKA” she said.
‘EUREKA!’, according to Lama, is a Greek interjection used to celebrate a discovery or invention, attributed to the ancient Greek scholar Archimedes. Who reportedly proclaimed “Eureka! Eureka!” after he had stepped into a bath and noticed that the water level rose, whereupon he suddenly understood that the volume of water displaced must be equal to the volume of the part of his body he had submerged.
