DAMASCUS, (ST)_ Deputy Premier, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid Al-Moallem stressed the importance of fighting foreign-backed terrorism which seeks undermining Syria.
Al-Moallem remarks came during his meeting on Wednesday with Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), Sergio Piazzi and the accompanying delegation.
Talks dealt with the recent developments in the region and the threats Syria has been exposed to by terrorist groups over four years.
The minister stressed that terrorism is a global plague that threatens all countries, emphasizing that efforts for fighting terrorism need genuine cooperation by all.
The top diplomat further said that some countries in the region are financing and supporting terrorist groups then facilitate their infiltration to Syria.
From his part, Pizaai said that PAM is making efforts to fight terrorism according to UNSC Resolutions No. 2178 & 2170.
He also stressed that all countries should implement these resolutions.
Piazzi added that PAM is working within the framework of United Nations and European organizations and forums to explain and clarify the situation in the region and to insert the terms of these resolutions in the European legislations.
He reiterated the support of PAM and its readiness to cooperate with Syria in fighting terrorism.
