Fighting Terror Should Be Top Priority of All Countries, because Terrorism Has Become a Global Phenomenon: al-Jaafari

GENEVA, (ST)-The seventh round of intra-Syrian talks continued today in Geneva with a meeting between the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic led by Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari and the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura at the UN headquarters.

In a statement to reporters following the talks, al-Jaafari said “today we held talks with de Mistura on fighting terrorism, or what is agreed to be called the fourth basket.” He added “these talks form an important prelude to continue discussing the file of terrorism fighting which is a top priority of the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic.

 Al-Jaafari stressed that fighting terrorism should be a top priority of all countries of the world, because terrorism has become a global phenomenon that is hitting the most important capital cities in the West and the entire world.

“We have repeatedly warned that terrorism will become a global phenomenon that will hit all including its supporters and sponsors,” al-Jaafari said.

He went on to say that “a meeting is now being held between technical and legal experts of our delegation and the experts of de Mistura team to discuss the 12-point paper on the principles and goals of the political process.”

In an interview with Sputnik, de Mistura said he intends to hold four rounds of intra- Syrian talks in Geneva till the end of this year, adding “we hope that we will get a different scene in Syria by the end of the year.”
