Fierce clashes erupt between Sudanese Army and “Rapid Support Forces” in Khartoum

The Sudanese Capital Khartoum on Saturday witnessed fierce clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that caused human casualties among civilians and military personnel.

The two sides traded accusations about who is behind these clashes.

In a statement published by Sudanese media outlets, the Sudanese Army announced that the RSF attacked several army bases in Khartoum and other areas which caused the eruption of the ongoing clashes, affirming the army constitutional and legal responsibility in preserving security and safety of the country.

According to Sudan’s News Agency (SUNA), the army said that the country is going through a historical and dangerous turn, and its dangers increase with the mobilization of the Rapid Support Forces and their redeployment inside the capital and some cities.

The statement renewed the Armed Forces adherence to what was agreed upon in support of the political transition in accordance with what was included in the framework agreement.

On the other hand, the RSF said they had seized control over the presidential palace, the army chief’s residence, the airport in Khartoum and several sites.

Earlier, heavy gunfire and explosions were heard in Sudan’s capital Khartoum following days of tension between the army and the Rapid Support Forces

Shooting and blasts took place on Saturday in the vicinity of Sudan’s army headquarters and the defense ministry in central Khartoum, as well as the presidential palace and airport.
