Fidan: Turkey attaches great importance to Syria’s territorial integrity

ANKARA, MAY, 10, (ST)-Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has affirmed that his country’s approach to to Syria is based on the principle that fundamental decisions must be made by the Syrians themselves.

In an interview with the Turkish channel “24 TV”, Fidan said that the situation in Syria and Iraq is fragile and dangerous, and Turkey is pursuing a constructive and comprehensive foreign policy to improve it.

“We are consulting with our brothers in the new Syrian administration and attach importance to Syria’s territorial integrity….The steps taken by the new Syrian government to strengthen its international relations are extremely important,” the minister added.

He indicated that western sanctions imposed during the former regime require dialogue to bring the positions of the concerned countries closer together.

Fidan in addition asserted that the significant regional expansion by Israel, and the return to instability in Syria would be a major problem that Turkey cannot ignore.
