Festivity of Syrian Trust for Development on the occasion of the establishment of the first Syrian shadow theater team

Damascus, (ST) – Twenty young men and women worked to preserve Syrian heritage through a collective work during the years of war to establish the first Syrian shadow theater team.

The Syrian Trust for Development, within the frame of preserving “the Syrian heritage” recently  organized  a celebration of “Syrian shadow theater team” coinciding  with the “World Theater Day” on the stage of the drama theater in Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts.

The aim of the Syrian Trust for Development from this activity is to preserve the Syrian heritage and employ it in the development of Syria and the renewal of its societies.

 

The Syrian shadow theater symbolized by the charters of (Krakows and Ewaaz) was included by the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2018 on the list of heritage that needs urgent preservation.

The festivity was an opportunity to introduce 24 personalities created by members of the Shadows team, holding contemporary names that reflect the conditions of the Syrian society. These personalities were chosen by young Syrian shadow team to show the importance of the shadow theater (Krakows and Ewaaz) in the memory of Syrians.

Sherine Nadaf, the supervisor of the project of developing the shadow theater in the Living Heritage program in Syrian Trust for Development said in a speech that, the puppet shadow reflects a popular conscience and a living memory, and part of the peoples’ stories and an endless piece of their history and civilization.

The Festivity was concluded with the distribution of certificates to the trainees along with the puppets that they had manufactured, and souvenirs from the theater atmosphere. Each member of the Shadow team will be given tools and equipment to continue their journey towards safeguarding the intangible cultural heritage.
