DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Ministry of Agriculture and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)study the needs that can be provided by the Organization for the affected farmers in accordance with the 2015 program.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ahmed Qaish said in a statement that a working group of the two sides will conduct field visits to orchards to stand on the ground and assess the needs of farmers and identify priorities, pointing out that he immediate assistance will be granted to support agricultural production and rural farming communities of crops, seed, pesticides, fertilizer and all that is linked to agricultural production process in addition to providing emergency assistance to support small-scale livestock breeders.
“The aim of providing such aid is to enable the rural families to improve of their status of living and make them a key partner in the economic and social development process as well as to increase their income and help to install them in their villages and maintaining existing jobs in agriculture,” Mr. Qadish said.
“After the completion of the first tour in accordance with the program of visits, the second station will be carried out in Hama and al –Ghab Area. The team work which was formed for this purpose and who will oversee and direct the assessment of the volume of aid and the amount of private agricultural sector and urgent needs will contribute and help to re-process the wheel agricultural productivity in the damaged areas and this process will also enable the areas that suffer from weakness in its productivity,” Mr. Qadish explained.
“The International Organization plans to provide aid worth $ 60 million for the Syrian farmers in 2015. Earlier the FAO in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Union of Veterinarians provided emergency assistance to the livestock sector amounted to 105 million Syrian pounds included veterinary medicine, according to sources at the FAO in Damascus office.
