FAO representative in Syria recommends agriculture to guarantee quality and safety of food

Food safety and quality are very important for the general health of individuals around the world. In Syria, food production has been facing several challenges that need to be overcome to secure food safety.

According to Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Syria Mike Robson, FAO’s main concern is to ascertain the safety and quality of food in Syria.

“The first thing that secures the safety of food is the management of the risks that face food production. These risks start in the farms, and continue in transportation means and in manufacturing. We first have to ensure clean water and the use of suitable chemicals in agriculture and this requires the management of all the sectors together”.

Agricultural greatly affects the quality and safety of food, said Robson, affirming that the agricultural sector in Syria is facing great challenges.

“Work is underway to mobilize resources to achieve development in the agricultural sector, because improving agriculture and paying attention to good agricultural practices reflect positively on improving the quality of production and consequently food,” he pointed out.
