With the participation of Syria, the works of the 37th session of the Regional Conference of Food and Agriculture Organization for the Near East and North Africa (FAO), was launched today in the Jordanian capital Amman.
Syria was represented at the conference by a delegation headed by the Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Muhamed Hassan Qatana.
Today and tomorrow, the ministerial session of the Conference will discuss several issues, including enabling comprehensive and sustainable rural transformation in the Near East and North Africa, accelerating the shift towards markets, trade and sustainable consumption. In addition to the shift towards efficient agricultural food systems that are resilient to climate change, as witnessed by the launch of the (Hand in Hand Regional Investment Forum).
Conference participants will also discuss proactive action to address the effects of the worsening crisis, future visions and incentives related to the Near East and North Africa region, science, innovation and digitalization to accelerate the transformation process in agricultural food systems. In addition to discussing the transformation of agriculture food systems in small island developing States, least developed countries and landlocked developing countries.
The Regional Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) presented an initiative to enhance this transformation, by establishing a regional observatory for food security for the East region, for which Jordan was chosen as a center.
It is noteworthy that ministers and leaders from all over the region are participating in the conference to develop a framework for a regional agreement on the future and joint work to achieve sustainable agricultural food systems with specific goals and to ensure food security for millions of people in the region.
