Facts and observations monitored by the Syrian Association for Exploration and Documentation in Qalamoun Mountains
Damascus (ST): With the participation of 110 volunteers from Damascus, Aleppo and Sweida, the Syrian Association for Exploration and Documentation went on a march at the summit of Mount Al-Qalaa on the western Qalamoun mountain range, the southern sector of it, Damascus Countryside, during which many observations and facts were recorded, according to the commander of field operations in the association, Khaled Nuwailati.
In a statement, Nuwailati said that this walk is the conclusion of the association’s activities for the year 2021, where the volunteer team succeeded in reaching an altitude of 2075 meters, and the walk to the summit of Mount Al-Qalaa took about 13 hours, and the length of the line was 12 kilometers, pointing out that despite the low temperatures, which reached minus 10, it was a fun adventure.
On the general scene that the association’s team was able to document, Nuwailati explained that the features of nature had completely disappeared in the depth of fog and snow-whiteness, and the team could not see the sun except three minutes before its setting, noting that the thickness of the snow ranged between 20 and 40 centimeters.
During the current year, the association held about forty activities, including the Maaloula walk, in which more than 150 university students participated, and the campaign to clean Mount Qasiyoun near the shrine of the Arbaeen, in addition to other environmental and documentary activities in different areas.
