In a statement following his meeting on Friday with Lebanese Foreign Minister Jibran Basil, Zasypkin said “we are ready for discussing this issue to identify who is to blame for what is going on in Eastern Ghouta and who ensure the cover for the terrorists there and in other areas.”

However, the Russian ambassador said that he was optimistic about achieving progress as regards reaching political solution to the crisis in Syria in accordance with Security Council Resolution No. 2254 and the results of Sochi Syrian National Dialogue Congress.

He added that his talks with Basil dealt with developments in the region, particularly Russia’s efforts to fight terrorism in Syria and achieve progress in political settlement process.
