DAMASCUS,(ST) -Heading to Egypt from the port of Tartous, the first marine ferry sailed carrying 40 trucks loaded with about 1,000 tons of Syrian apples to be exported to Egypt.
Member of the Board of the Syrian Federation of Exporters who is head of the agricultural sector, Iyad Muhammad, said in a statement to local press that this step comes at the initiative of the Federation of Syrian Exporters after the closure of the border crossing with Jordan and in order not to stop the movement of the surplus of the Syrian agricultural exports.
“This came in coordination between the Syrian Federation and the Egyptian embassy to ensure visas for motorists of trucks, stressing that there is a regular weekly cruises to Egypt.”Mr. Mohammed confirmed.
He pointed out that the number of voyages can be increased according to demand that the materials that will be exported by sea to Egypt mainly include vegetables and fruit.
