European Union: Syrians ‘ asylum applications in Europe fall to lowest level

The European Union’s asylum agency announced today that the number of asylum applications submitted by Syrians to the EU countries has dropped to the lowest level in over a decade as of last February.

The data of the European agency, as reported by AFP, showed that the Syrians “submitted 5,000 asylum applications in the twenty-seven EU countries, in addition to Switzerland and Norway, during last February, a decrease of 34 percent compared to the previous month.

EU Migration Commissioner Magnus Brunner said:” The latest asylum figures show how important stability in other regions is for Europe.”

The twenty-seven countries in the European Union, in addition to Switzerland and Norway, received about 69 thousand asylum applications last February, with a downward trend that began in October 2024, according to the asylum agency, where Syrians, who previously accounted for the largest number of applicants, came in third place in February, while France topped the list of receiving countries, followed by Spain, then Germany, which was the first destination for Syrians for many years.
