Brussels (ST): European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that sanctions imposed on Russia over its military operation in Ukraine will have a cost to Europe itself.
In response to a question as to whether Europe will pay the price for sanctions against Russia, von der Leyen said in an interview with “Euronews” television: “Yes, we know that every war has a price,” noting that Europe will continue to support Ukraine.
Ursula von der Leyen noted that the European Union wants to see Ukraine as part of the European bloc, but at the same time it is important that Kiev agree to peace talks with Russia.
In the past few days, Western countries imposed a package of economic sanctions on Russia in response to Moscow’s launch of a special military operation in Ukraine to protect the residents of the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics.
