The European Union’s climate official, Frans Timmermans, announced that ten member states of the European Union have so far suffered damage as a result of the decline in gas supplies from Russia.
“Ten of the 27 EU countries have issued an early warning about gas supplies, which is the first and least severe of the three levels of crisis defined in the European Union’s energy security regulations,” Reuters quoted Timmermans as saying.
Russia reduced gas flows through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to 40 percent of the line’s capacity last week, citing equipment problems, after Russia had already reduced gas supplies to Poland, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Denmark and Finland due to its refusal to abide by the new ruble payment method.
