MOSCOW – Commenting on the stance of Brussels over refugees, Russian Permanent Representative to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov said that currently the EU morphed into “a superpower of double standards”.
“For a long time, the European Union has called itself a “lifestyle superpower”, implying that the main achievement of Europe’s entire integration is a high standard of living for their inhabitants. I would label the EU a superpower of double standards,” he said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 TV news channel.
“Take Poland as an example. A couple of months ago, we witnessed a tragic situation, as near the border with Belarus in the Polish forests, border guards and the military kept refugees from the Middle East, including Syria, in inhuman conditions, who hoped to get into the EU in this way,” Chizhov recalled.
