The European Union welcomed the agreement to integrate the Syrian Democratic Forces into the institutions of the Syrian Arab Republic, strezding that it paves the way for enhanced stability and a better future for the Syrians.
The European Union affirmed in a statement its readiness to provide the necessary support to Syria to implement the terms of the agreement, noting that the national dialogue that was held late in February must lead to the fulfillment of the aspirations of all components of the Syrian society.
The EU considered comprehensive transitional justice as a fundamental principle to achieve national reconciliation and building a secure Syria, in addition to achieving a comprehensive political transition.
Referring to the EU’s recent suspension of some of the sanctions imposed on Syria, the EU stated that it is considering suspending further sanctions, reiterating its call for respecting Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
The EU also called for the continuation of humanitarian aid deliveries to Syria and for an end to violence throughout the country. It warned against any attempts by foreign actors to manipulate information to incite further violence and instability.
