EU Council’s Claims about Use of Chemical Weapons in Syria a Misinformation Campaign: Ministry

DAMASCUS, (ST)-  Syria has condemned the allegations made by the European Union Council on the use of chemical weapons in Syria, stressing that these claims which lack credibility, come within the framework of the misinformation and fabrication campaign launched against Syria.

A source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates told SANA on Tuesday that Syria stresses that all the anti-Syria chemical allegations made by western officials have indicated that they lack evidence about the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government, and this proves that the aim of these lies and false accusations is to defame the Syrian state, protect the terrorist groups and cover up the terrorists’ use of chemical weapons in the country.

“Syria has repeatedly warned that the terrorist groups have been fabricating chemical attacks to create a pretext for the masters and operators of the terrorist groups to attack Syria,” said the source, adding that Syria also had affirmed that the country is completely free of chemical weapons.

“The European Union’s insistence to continue adopting the strategy of blind subordination to the US policies makes the bloc unqualified to play any role at the international arena and strips it from credibility, thus, it is not strange for the Europeans to lose confidence in this union,” the source stressed.

“Such claims won’t stop the Syrian Arab Republic from chasing terrorists, eliminating terrorism from the entire Syrian territory and foiling the conspiracy hatched against Syria and the Arab nation in which the European Union has been a tool,” the source concluded.
