Leaders of the European Union have strongly criticized the US administration’s decision to unilaterally impose a ban on travel from European countries to the United States as part of the efforts to stop the rapid spread of the coronavirus, saying that Trump’s move was taken without consultation with the EU.
AFP quoted European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen and President of the European Council Charles Michel as saying in a joint statement on Thursday that the EU rejects Trump’s unilateral decision to impose the ban without consultation with EU leaders, affirming that “the coronavirus is a global crisis, not limited to any continent and it requires cooperation instead of unilateral measures.”
Earlier on Thursday, a European diplomat confirmed that the United States did not coordinate with European officials on the travel ban from Europe to the United States before the US President announced this decision on Wednesday night.
