European Union High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton urged to continue supporting Gaza population, under an over-six-year-old Israeli blockade, reported local sources today.
We will keep the economic and political support to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and the Gaza population, said the EU commissioner ,according to Prensa Latina.
Asthon said in a press conference that they are willing to see new steps operating towards Gaza, improve the economy there and see children with the hope of a better future.
According to UN figures, about 73 percent of Palestinians in the territories occupied by Israel live in condition of refugees.
The EU criticizes the construction of Zionist paramilitary settlements in West Bank for contradicting the current international law and supports the creation of an independent Palestinian State in the borders prior to the 1967 war.
