Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed the EU’s decision to suspend a number of European sanctions against Syria.
“Erdogan welcomed, during a phone call with European Council President Antonio Costa, the exemptions provided by the European Union regarding the sanctions imposed on Syria, in order to rebuild this country,” Anadolu Agency quoted the Turkish Presidency’s Communications Department as saying in a statement today.
In turn, Costa said, “In these difficult times, we appreciate Turkey’s role as an important regional and global player, and we wish to work closely together to achieve lasting peace in Ukraine and support a comprehensive and democratic transition in Syria.”
