Turkish politician: Erdogan adopts authoritarian policies that disregard the simplest standards of democracy
ANKARA, (ST)- Deputy leader of the Turkish opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Engin Özkoç has stressed that President of the Turkish regime Recepe Tayyib Erdogan adopts authoritarian policies that disregard the simplest standards of democracy.
In a statement to the Turkish Halk TV on Saturday, the Turkish politician said that Erdogan’s provocative policies and escalation encourage the state’s bodies to threaten all the citizens who oppose Erdogan’s policies. He referred in this regard to the Turkish Interior Minister’s decision to fire six heads of municipalities, who belong to the People’s Democratic Party, from their posts.
Özkoç warned of the propaganda launched by pro-Erdogan media against opposition figures, noting that this is a dangerous phenomenon in Turkey.
Erdogan has undermined democracy and destroyed economy in Turkey
Leader of the Turkish “Good Party” Meral Akşener has affirmed that President of the Turkish regime Recep Tayyib Erdogan has undermined democracy and destroyed economy in Turkey after his control of all state institutions.
In a statement on Friday, Akşener said that “the Turks will get rid of Erdogan in the first presidential elections as polls showed that most of the Turkish people won’t vote for him anymore.”
She noted Erdogan’s wrong internal and foreign policies, particularly in Syria, clarifying that Erdogan has undermined the independency of the judiciary and hunted down all his opponents, including journalists, intellectuals and politicians.
“The past few weeks have again proved that Erdogan is the enemy of the Turkish people. He failed in confronting coronavirus because he couldn’t provide financial assistance to millions of citizens who have lost their jobs and who are living within difficult circumstances created by the financial crisis caused by him and his son in law, the Treasury Minister, who has proved that he doesn’t understand anything about economy,” according Akşener.
Erdogan’s regime’s aggressive policies as well as the deteriorating security and political situation have led to bad economic repercussions on Turkey. Tourism and investment have deteriorated, foreign currency revenues have decreased in a way that reduced foreign investors’ confidence in the Turkish economy.
