Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has urged the European Union to lift sanctions on Syria and to support reconstruction efforts.
In a speech during the plenary session of the sixth summit of the “European Political Group” held in the Albanian capital, Tirana, Erdogan stated, “The announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump to lift sanctions imposed on Syria is a significant step towards achieving prosperity in the region as soon as possible.” He added that this decision demonstrates President Trump’s commitment to enhancing stability and development in the area. Erdogan expressed hope that this action would inspire other countries to follow suit.
Erdogan also called on the European Union to take immediate action to lift sanctions imposed on the previous regime and to provide necessary financial support for reconstruction efforts.
He emphasized that this would help facilitate the voluntary, safe, and dignified return of Syrians living abroad to their homes.
