TEHRAN – Cairo doesn’t support the “Wahhabis and Salafis’ idea of Jihad” against Syria, a senior Egyptian diplomat said, stressing that the crisis in Syria only has a political solution.
“As Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy has underlined, the only solution to this crisis is a political solution and Egypt doesn’t support the idea of “Jihad “against Syria and discloses any effort to disintegrate or “destroy “the Syrian government and society,” Head of Egypt’s Interests Section in Iran Khalid Amareh said in a press conference in Tehran on Wednesday.
Amareh stressed that the current problems in Syria are the result of military intervention of foreign countries, including the western and certain regional states.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against the Syrian police, border guards, statesmen, army and the civilians being reported across the country.
Thousands of people have been killed since terrorist and armed groups turned protest rallies into armed clashes.
The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
