Enhancing Relations with Syria One of Abkhazia’s Top Priorities: Khadjimba

MOSCOW- President Raul Khadjimba of Abkhazia has stressed that enhancing and enriching his country’s relations with Syria is a top priority.

“Top mission today is to enrich the official relations between Syria and Abkhazia, particularly after Syria has recognized Abkhazia’s independence,” President Khadjimba told the Russian Izvestia newspaper.

Last June, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced that Syria, South Assetia and Abkhazia agreed to exchange recognition and set up embassy-level diplomatic relations.

 A few days ago, a delegation of the Republic of Abkhazia, led by the Abkhazian President’s envoy, visited Syria to boost relations between the two countries.

On the other hand, Khadjimba said that there are attempt to make Georgia a “bridge” to threaten Russia from the southern side, and for this purpose NATO countries, mainly the United States, are working to “modernize the Georgian army”.

He also affirmed that Abkhazia and Russia signed a number of agreements on defense and security to confront dangers.
