Enhancing Prospects of Cooperation with Belarus

DAMASCUS, (ST) – Deputy Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Hayan Suleiman and representatives of the Ministry of Industry, Authority of Exports and Development Promotion, General Establishment of Fairs and International Markets, Unions of Exporters, Chambers of Agriculture and Commerce focused in their meeting held here reecntly on ways to open prospects of economic and trade cooperation with the Republic of Belarus.

“It was agreed to seek the preferential benefits of the Belarusian side such as reducing customs duties, transport fees, cooperation in the field of exhibitions and providing logistical support for the Syrian fairs,” the Deputy Minister of Economy clarified.

“The possibility of establishing joint ventures with the Republic of Belarus also was discussed particularly Belarus has achieved high steps of development in the field of agro-industry, pointing to the need to convert the comparative advantages of the Syrian exports to the competitive advantages that allow export to Belarus,” he added.

He pointed to the importance of seeking to join the Eurasian Union, which includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan noting that Syria has fought three rounds in this area and waits for the approval of the parliaments of the Member States of the Union to enter into the fourth round.

The agreement on these basic issues between the public and private sectors is a basic building block to build relationships with the Republic of Belarus, Deputy Minister of Economy concluded.
