Enhancing Economic, Investment Relations with Cuba

Havana, (ST) -The Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce (FSCC) and Cuba Chamber of Commerce signeda Memo of Understanding. The Memo aims at enhancing the economic and trade relations between the two countries.

In a statement after signing the Memo in Havana, Deputy Economy Minister Dr. Samer al Khalil underlined that this step forms a new momentum to develop the mechanism of joint action between the two countries and contributes to attain joint goals.

 “Promising opportunities for investment are available in both countries, whereas this Memo is considered a mainstay to achieve more openness and provide investment and commercial opportunities,’ Dr. al Khalil asserted.

For his part, Head of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce Orlando Hernands confirmed that signing this Memo is a natural result of the historic brotherly relations linking the two friendly countries, noting that it is our duty to each other to strengthen economic relations between the two countries.

Mr. Hernands stressed that the visit of the Syrian delegation and signing the Memo will enable us to acquaint on the basic needs of Cuba and the needs of its markets, adding the Cuban Chamber will be ready to provide all kinds of services to Syrian businessmen.

The Memo provides for understanding between the two chambers and finding mechanisms to exchange views and information about developing business activity, organizing visits for businessmen and commercial missions of both sides and finding mechanisms of joint cooperation.

The Memo also provides for holding exhibitions, seminars, and conferences in both countries aiming at expanding trade exchange, organizing meetings to brief businessmen on investment opportunities and available joint projects, exchange of information and coordination for the foundation of the Syrian –Cuban Workers Committee.

On the other hand, during a meeting with the Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Hilina Mordoshi, the Syrian delegation reviewed horizons of economic and trade relations between the two countries.

For her part, Mrs. Mordoshi confirmed her country’s care for holding close relations with Syria, adding that this visit will provide a new momentum for economic relations between the two countries.

The Memo was signed by the Deputy of Foreign Trade and Investment on the sidelines of Syria’s participation in the 34th Havana International Fair which was opened recently in Havana with the participation of 73 countries.
