Enhancing Commodity Exchange between Syria and Iran

 

 

 

DAMASCUS,(ST)- Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Engineer Subhi Abdullah, stressed that the agreement signed recently b with Iran provides for promotion of commodity exchange ,the export of citrus and olives from Syria to Iran and import potatoes from Iran.

 Engineer al-Abdullah stressed in statements to al-Thawra Daily  that the General Establishment  for Storage and Marketing will export citrus, whereas the Federation of Chambers of Agriculture will take interest in marketing olive and olive oil to Iran.

 The minister confirmed that the agreement between the two countries will increase cooperation in the field of scientific researches, acquiring  experience to reach drought-tolerant strains and to resist diseases, pests and climatic factors.

 “In cooperation with official and private bodies, the ministry seeks to unify the efforts to push forward the marketing process at the local level, referring to the benefit of consumption of olive oil,” the minister pointed out.

 The production of Citrus and olive for this year is estimated at one million ton, which means that there is a considerable saving of marketing needs to prevent the deterioration of prices and this leads to help farmers who previously suffer from difficult circumstances.
