Prime Minister, Eng. Hussein Arnous, received a telegram of condolence for the earthquake victims from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in which he expressed his sorrow and sympathy with the Syrian people and the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.

The Malaysian Prime Minister said in his telegram: “On behalf of the government and people of Malaysia, we extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families of the victims, and we ask God for mercy for the victims and those affected by this difficult tragedy.”

Ibrahim added: “As a friendly country to Syria, Malaysia is ready to provide full assistance in relief efforts. In this regard, the Malaysian government has allocated an amount of one million dollars as immediate support for the ongoing relief efforts through the Syrian Red Crescent, the International Federation of the Red Cross, and the Honorary Consul Office of Malaysia in Damascus. An advanced team from Malaysia comprising several government agencies will be sent to Damascus to immediately carry out this task.

He pointed out that in the framework of expressing solidarity with the Syrian people, the Malaysian government is also collecting money from the Malaysian people through the Disaster Management Fund of the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the ongoing relief efforts. Mosques in Malaysia are organizing fundraising campaigns in addition to prayers and supplications for all those affected from this earthquake.

Eng. Arnous also received a telegram of condolences for the earthquake victims from the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Danish Gnawardina.

Gnawardina said in the telegram: “I am deeply saddened by what I learned about the devastating earthquake that struck Syria and caused the death and injury of thousands of Syrians.  I, as Prime Minister of a country which is suffering because of the tsunami that hit my country, Sri Lanka in 2004, can feel your suffering in these difficult times. We share the grief of the affected people for those lost, and we pray for a speedy recovery for the injured.”

The Sri Lankan Prime Minister expressed commitment to providing aid and support at this difficult time, pointing to prayers for the victims and for the urgent restoration of decent living conditions in the areas affected by the disaster.
