Energy Minister: Syria Will Soon Sign an Agreement to Import Electricity from Turkey

Energy Minister Engineer Mohammad Al-Bashir confirmed that Syria will soon sign an agreement to import electricity from Turkey via a 400-kilovolt line extending from Turkey to Syria, in addition to working on a natural gas line between the Turkish city of Kilis and Aleppo.

Engineer Al-Bashir explained in a statement to SANA that there is an electricity supply line that will begin operating in the near future, connecting Reyhanlı with the Harem area in Idlib countryside. Once completed, it will transfer about 80 megawatts of electricity to northern Syria through a transformation station on the Turkish side.

He noted that “the gas line will enable us to supply 6 million cubic meters of gas daily to power generation stations in Syria, which will contribute to improving the energy situation in the country.”

Regarding the mining sector, the Energy Minister pointed out that discussions were held with the Turkish side about the extraction of minerals such as phosphate and lithium, and the possibility of exploring for natural gas in the territorial waters was also proposed.

Engineer Al-Bashir called on Turkish companies to invest in Syria, stating that investment opportunities are available in all areas of energy, including oil and natural gas exploration, refining, transportation, rehabilitating electricity lines and power generation stations, and rebuilding refineries.
