Embassy of the Philippines celebrates the 76th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations with Syria
The Embassy of the Philippines in Damascus organized on Saturday a friendly bowling competition on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Syria, at the Damskino Mall in the Kafr Sousa neighborhood of Damascus.
Chargé d’Affairs of the Philippine Embassy in Damascus Feda Soraya Verzosa expressed her condolences to the families of the victims of the Israeli attack that took place on Saturday morning at Damascus International Airport and south of Damascus, expressing the Philippines’ solidarity with the Syrian people and its appreciation for their steadfastness and facing challenges and difficulties.
In her speech, Verzosa underlined the importance of this activity as part of the cultural cooperation agreements between the two countries. She noted that sport is an important project to promote health and wellness for all, and it is a very important aspect in promoting cultural cooperation and a form of developing relations between the two countries.
Verzosa thanked Syria for helping and supporting Filipino families to return to the Philippines after working in Syria, as well as creating opportunities to help young children get an education.
In turn, the Director of the Consular Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Tammam Suleiman, expressed his appreciation and thanks to the Philippine Embassy for its solidarity with the Syrian people against the attacks and violations carried out by the Israeli enemy on Saturday morning. He noted that this aggression expresses the brutality of the occupation against Syria, Arabs, the region and the world, pointing out that Syria continues to defend its rights and sovereignty.
Suleiman stressed the depth of the friendly relations between the two countries, as Syria was among the first countries to recognize the independence of the Philippines in 1946. He noted that the Philippine embassy continued to work in Damascus during the terrorist war that was waged against Syria, which indicates the belief of the Philippines in the sovereignty of Syria and the joint work to strengthen relations between the two countries especially as they are linked to 14 bilateral cooperation agreements in various fields.
For his part, the Honorary Consul of the Philippines Waseem Nena’a affirmed that the Syrian-Philippines relations are historical and deep, pointing out that the peoples of the two countries enjoy the same values towards peace and a positive view of the future.
