Embassy of Algeria in Damascus commemorates the 60th anniversary of the independence of its country

Damascus, (ST) – The Embassy of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria celebrated yesterday evening, in cooperation with the Emir Abdelkader Al-Jazaery Cultural Establishment, the 60th anniversary of Algeria’s independence, at Sheikh Ahmed Kaftaro Complex in Damascus.

Minister of Endowments, Dr. Abdul Sattar Al-Sayed, affirmed in his speech that the history of Algeria and Syria is a common history.

Algeria’s ambassador in Damascus, Lahcen Tihami said that Syria is the land of civilization, and we dedicate the commemoration of Algeria’s independence to the memory of millions of Syrian students who have been saluting the Syrian flag for many years every morning during the Algerian liberation revolution coupled with the Algerian national anthem and for that, Algeria remained present in the conscience of the Syrians.

Prince Abdul Qader’s Al-Jazaeri stay in Damascus enhanced the historical balance of relations between the two countries, as Damascus hosted him that enabled him to play great roles on the political and social levels

The Algerian ambassador pointed to the distinguished and historical joint relations and the continuous communication. He stressed the importance of working to develop these relations, especially in the economic field and trade exchange between the two countries.

Ambassador Tihami indicated that the governments of the two countries are keen to enhance bridges of communication, consultation and coordination.

For his part, Sherif Sawaf, the Head of the Prince Abdul Qader Al-Jazeri Establishment for Culture and Heritage in Syria, and the general supervisor of the Kaftaro complex, said that Algeria taught the world that independence, freedom, dignity and defense of the homeland cannot be cheap because Algeria is a symbol of the honorable.  He stressed that Arab and Islamic civilization is based on partnership with all civilizations.

Joseph Zeytoun, representative of the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, John X Yazigi, said that Algeria’s independence is a national occasion, and Emir Abdelkader Al-Jazaeri is a national leader, pioneer of resistance and founder of modern Algeria.
