Eighty Syrian children and adults take part in the “International Hour of Code ” event

The Hour of Code event takes place around the world every year in early December. It is a global movement which aims at introducing participants to programming in a simple and fun way .

 

During this campaign, adults and children are educated about programming as a professional developer and about new technologies . They are also offered the chance to try some programming themselves.

In conjunction with the participation of more than 100 million participants from 180 countries around the world, 80 Syrian children and adolescents aged 4-13 participated in the “ International Hour of Code ” event hosted by the Syrian Computer Society ( SCS) branch in Lattakia for the second year in a row.

The Head of the Lattakia’s branch of the SCS Eng. Mariam Fayoud stressed to Syriatimes e-newspaper the importance of participation in this event because it emphasizes the key role of the SCS as a scientific establishment that provides educational services in the field of IT to the Syrian community with international standards, which qualifies it to be a real and influential partner in these global activities.

She indicated that taking part in the International Hour of Code event provides the participants in this experience with an opportunity to share the joy of collective learning of the same information with their counterparts from the world in the same method.

Eng. Fayoud added that this scientific event is also a chance for organizers and trainers to exchange training and organizing expertise with their counterparts from international companies and organizations.

The nine-year-old Ward Khairbek indicated that he is participating for the second time in the event, in which he found an opportunity to explore everything new in computer science and learn basic programming skills .

In turn, the participant Siwar Wassouf said it is the first time that he is going through this new experience with the encouragement of his friends, in order to develop his mental abilities and stimulate his logical thinking through smart games.
