Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi welcomed the acceptance of Egypt’s membership in the BRICS group, stressing that Egypt has a close relationship with the countries of the group.
Al-Sisi said in a statement published by the Egyptian presidency on Twitter today: We are proud of the confidence of the countries of the group and the invitation of Egypt to join its membership starting from January 2024, adding: We have aspirations to continue cooperation and coordination with the countries of the BRICS group during the coming period, and we also look forward to cooperation with the other five countries that have been invited to join the group.
The Egyptian president stressed the joint endeavor to achieve BRICS goals related to strengthening economic cooperation among the member states. He also stressed the importance of joint action to face challenges, noting the need for cooperation to support the rights of developing countries.
The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, also praised the BRICS approval of his country’s accession to the group, expressing his aspiration to work jointly with its members for the prosperity of the world.
“We appreciate the agreement of the leaders of the BRICS group to include the UAE and we look forward to working together for the prosperity and benefit of all countries and peoples of the world, Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed said.
In turn, a member of the Saudi Shura Council, Fadl Al-Buainain, said: The increase in the number of BRICS members achieves more economic strength for the group.
Al-Buainain added in a statement to Sputnik: This important step; that is the accession of the new countries, benefits the group and the new members, especially in the light of estimates that talk about expectations that the BRICS will control 44 percent of the global economy by 2040.
For his part, Muhammad Jamshidi, the political advisor to the Iranian president, described in a comment today that his country’s acceptance of membership in the BRICS group was a strategic success for Tehran’s foreign policy.
Jamshidi said: The permanent membership in the group of global emerging economies is a historic event and a strategic success for Iran’s foreign policy.
In turn, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said Ethiopia’s accession to the BRICS group represents a great moment, adding that we are ready to cooperate with everyone for a comprehensive and prosperous world order.
At the end of its summit today in Johannesburg, the BRICS group, which includes Russia, China, Brazil, India and South Africa, announced the approval of the accession of six new countries, namely Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Argentina and Ethiopia, provided that the membership of these countries begins on January 1, 2024.
