Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati discussed with Lebanese caretaker prime minister Najib Mikati and speaker of the House of Representatives Nabih Berri the relations between Lebanon and Egypt and the efforts exerted to stop tensions in the region due to the Israeli aggressions.
According to the Lebanese News Agency, Mikati expressed Lebanon’s appreciation for the international and Arab efforts being made to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and to stop the Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon.
For his part, Berri stressed the similarity of views between Lebanon and Egypt, considering that the essence of the conflict in the region is the Palestinian issue and granting the Palestinian people their legitimate rights.
“The success of the ceasefire efforts is the key to the return of stability and solutions in the region,” Berri said.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister, after meeting with his Lebanese counterpart Abdullah Bou Habib, affirmed his country’s condemnation of any violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, stressing that the aggression on the southern suburb of Beirut is unacceptable and strongly condemned by Egypt.
Abdel Ati said at a press conference with Bou Habib: “the policy of assassinations is completely rejected, and Egypt stands in solidarity with Lebanon in this ordeal and difficult circumstance and will spare no effort for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, as this is the basis for de-escalation and easing tension.”
