Egypt’s Sisi Calls for Preserving the Syrian State to Prevent Terrorism Expansion towards Neighboring Countries

CAIRO, (ST)- President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt has stressed the need to preserve the Syrian state as to prevent terrorism from expanding towards the neighboring countries and threatening the region’s security.

In a statement to the BBC shortly before his visit to London, al-Sisi said “we warned two years ago from the foreign terrorists fighting in Syria, but a year after the warning Daesh has spread in Iraq and Syria”.

Al-Sisi referred to the growing doubts in the role being played by the US-led anti-terror coalition in preventing terrorism expansion and asked what successes the coalition has achieved in this respect.

He reiterated the necessity of cooperation to fight extremist groups and their takfiri ideas, noting that “killing Egyptian soldiers is the price of confrontation to protect the country and the world from the killers’ terrorist mentality.
