Egypt, Lebanon to complete follow-up procedures for the arrival of Egyptian gas to Lebanon through Syria and Jordan

Cairo, (ST) – The Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla discussed with the Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water, Walid Fayyad in Cairo on Tuesday the procedures for the arrival of Egyptian gas to Lebanon through Syria and Jordan.

In his statements, reported by Egyptian media, Al-Molla said that his meeting with his Lebanese counterpart comes as a continuation of the discussions of the executive procedures and the steps that have been taken to bring Egyptian gas to Lebanon within the framework of the Egyptian state’s commitment to support the Lebanon to overcome the current energy crisis by providing the gas supplies they need.

Al-Molla indicated that he and his Lebanese counterpart followed up on intensive meetings held by executive officials in the oil and gas sector in both countries to finalize all the details related to agreements for the supply of natural gas and to agree on the timetable for the arrival of gas.

For his part, Fayyad affirmed the common interest in quickly completing the necessary procedures for the arrival of Egyptian gas to Lebanon. He said that it was agreed to conduct an inspection and evaluation of the gas transmission line linking Syria and Lebanon within the framework of completing the required arrangements to prepare the necessary infrastructure for its transportation.

A Syrian and Lebanese delegation, accompanied by Egyptian technicians, toured the Al-Rayyan Gas Station and Al-Dabbousiya Station to check the readiness of the gas lines within the framework of the project to transfer Egyptian gas to the Lebanese side through the Arab Gas Pipeline.

The Ministers of Energy and Electricity in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon agreed on the sixth of this October on a plan and a timetable  to restart  the existing electrical interconnection lines between the networks of the three countries.

A Jordanian-Syrian-Lebanese-Egyptian ministerial meeting was also held in Amman last month, during which it was agreed to transport Egyptian gas and Jordanian electricity to Lebanon through Syrian territories.
