Egypt, Cyprus and Greece underlined on Tuesday the urgency to preserve the territorial integrity of Syria, expressing deep concern over the Turkish aggression on the Syrian territory.
In a joint statement after a meeting held among Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Cairo on Tuesday, the three countries condemned any Turkish attempt to undermine Syrian territorial integrity.
The three states stressed the commitment to the unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Syria, voicing support for international efforts to promote a political solution to the crisis in Syria in accordance with the Security Council Resolution No. 2254 and the Geneva Statement.
The three states expressed grave concern about the situation in Idlib, where thousands of terrorists are receiving assistance from specific parties, which poses a common threat to the Mediterranean region.
The three countries reaffirmed the strengthening of international efforts to combat terrorism and extremism.
Egypt, Cyprus and Greece called on the international community to take further action in accordance with international law against all terrorist organizations, as well as to take measures to hold regional parties accountable for financing, supplying weapons, providing safe shelters and media platforms to terrorist organizations.
The three countries confirmed their firm support for Cyprus’ efforts to reach a solution to the Cyprus issue on the basis of the UN Security Council resolutions, calling on the Turkish regime to put an end to its provocative actions and resume negotiations to find a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus issue.
They also stressed that this solution should be consistent with the independence of the Republic of Cyprus, its membership in the European Union and its full right to protect its security, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Egypt, Cyprus and Greece also condemned the continuing Turkish actions in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus and its territorial waters, which violate the international law and the Greek airspace and territorial waters in the Aegean Sea.
