Damascus, (ST) – Head of Syrian businessmen Gathering in Egypt Eng. Khaldoun al Mawki’ confirmed that the number of Syrian factories in Egypt constitutes at least 80 percent of the number of factories which were established outside the country, noting the lack of definitive statistics for the number of factories.
Mr. al Mawki’ clarified that that these industries include the textil sector and some of the food industry, pointing out that the large industries do not exceed the number of fingers of the hand, whereas the greatest number and most important are small and medium industries.
Mr. al Mawki’ pointed out that Syrian industrialists chose Egypt for the establishment of industries because it is the largest country in the Arab world and the industrialists are familiar with Egypt’s market being a market for their exports, in addition to the location of Egypt near the traditional markets of Syrian exports in the Arab countries, Gulf and Africa, saying that Egypt provides an important opportunity for the industrialists and the Syrian industry to identify the African countries and markets through Egypt’s relations and economic agreements with them.
He noted to the difficulties faced by the industrialists and the Syrian industry and noted the positive role of Syrian expatriates in Egypt who provided all possible assistance to this sector.
