DAMASCUS,(ST)_ Marking the Syrian Captive Day, the Committee in Support of Syrian prisoners in the Israeli jails and their families on Sunday handed over a message to the Head of Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross ICRC in Damascus explaining the deteriorating conditions of prisoners and the practices of brutality and deliberate neglect they undergo by the occupation authorities.
The message noted ICRC efforts to improve living and human conditions of the Syrian prisoners from the Golan and Palestine who are exposed to the worst types of brutality and repression exercised by the occupation prisons department.
The Committee appealed to the human conscience and noble will of the international community to alleviate the suffering of the prisoners and pressure the Israeli occupation authorities for the release of Syrian prisoners of the occupied Syrian Golan and all Arab prisoners , noting that their detention is inconsistent with the principles of the international law , Geneva Conventions and human rights principles.
ICRC head of Mission in Damascus Marianne Gasser said that the ICRC gives top priority to visit Syrian and Palestinian prisoners and detainees in Israeli prisons noting “weekly visits to places of detention to ensure that prisoners and detainees receive humanitarian care and acceptable life “.
She confirmed that the message was delivered to the ICRC headquarters in Geneva yesterday while the ICRC missions in both the occupied territories and Israel will follow up this issue to make sure Palestinian and Syrian prisoners are taking the required care.
