Education Minister: Syria support for UNESCO efforts to Achieve peace , security , countering terrorism.
PARIS,(ST)_ Minister of Education , Dr Hezwan al-Wazz head of the Syrian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture and member of UNESCO ‘s Executive Council stressed Syria ‘s commitment to continue cooperation with UNESCO in various key areas in Syria , despite the current challenges and to contribute to building a more humanitarian world , where human sustainable development is prioritized .
In a speech yesterday in the 37th session of UNESCO General Conference in Paris , the minister added that despite the current crisis in Syria , ” we continue to work hard to improve the humanitarian , social , educational conditions and withstand challenges facing the implementation of development projects, noting that the first of these projects was the development of national standards for learning curriculum in the year 2003 , up to beginning of year 2013 , noting in this regard, the two presidential decrees provided for the establishment of the national Center for the development of educational curricula and the center of educational measurement and Evaluation , and the introduction of the new examination system for secondary school certificates .
The minister stressed Syria’s readiness to continue efforts and provide support in shaping the future of UNESCO and supporting it in the face of crises , noting Syria’s support for UNESCO ‘s structuralism reform efforts and commitment to respect the principles of its Constitution and international conventions for collective action.
The Minister noted Syria ‘s achievements in this area, especially the administrative reform program , the balanced human resources policy , gender equality and education for all and, education initiatives , learning first , -quality education for life , the Scientific Advisory Board on Sustainable Development and the training of teachers , youths programs , fight against poverty and the education of girls .
The minister stressed Syria ‘s commitment to supporting the organization’s efforts to meet the challenges of sustainable development after 2015 , particularly the achievement of peace , security and countering terrorism.
He appealed UNESCO ‘s Member States to work together on the application of UNESCO ‘s binding conventions on the protection of World cultural and natural Heritage , and combating illicit trafficking in cultural property .
The minister renewed Syria’s principled stances concerning the occupied Arab territories , stressing that the world is compatible to renounce practices of the Israeli occupation authorities and its daily attacks against our people in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Israeli authorities continued Judaization of Jerusalem , the illegal settlements , and siege of Gaza .
The Minister stressed Syria ‘s commitment to and support for the just causes of the 77 countries , China , the Non – Aligned Movement and the BRICS countries.
He pointed out that the Syrian people have been fighting for more than two and a half year a fierce battle against armed takfirists of al-Qaeda affiliated al-Nusra front in an attempt to dominate Syria sovereign and national decision , bring in outside interference and disrupt the process of construction and development introduced during the last decade .
The minister said that Syria declared readiness to participate in the international Geneva 2 conference on the crisis , without preconditions, saying that the solution to the crisis is through dialogue among the Syrians themselves , led by Syria without foreign interference or dictates , stressing that the success of any political solution requires the obligation of states supporting terrorism to stop financial , military logistical and media support for those terrorist groups.
