Economy Minister: Syrian Economy Promising, New Free Zones

DAMASCUS, (ST) The Minister of Economy, and Foreign Trade, Dr. Khider Orfali underlined that Syria will be able to build a strong economy to ensure an adequate standard of living for the Syrian citizens.

 In a meeting with the Higher Committee of Investors of the free zones on electing Dr. Bashar al-Assad as a president for a new constitutional term, the minister said that the third day of June would draw its positive effects on the future of Syria, the future that the Syrians want. “Syria’s doors are open for investors and the Syrian economy is promising” Dr. Orfali clarified.

For his part, Chairman of the Higher Committee of Investors in the Free Zones, Fahd Darwish, confirmed that the next phase in Syria would see the establishment of several new free zones, including a free trade zone on the Syrian-Lebanese border, and plans to set up several specialized industrial, technological and information zones.

For his part, Director General of the Free Zones, Mohammed Katkout, stated that the current stage is the stage of actions to rebuild what has been destroyed; the stage of making decisions that contribute to the prosperity of the Syrian economy and to attract many investments. It is necessary to modernize the laws to enhance the condition of free zones to be a helping tool in strengthening the Syrian economy.

Head of the Board of Directors of the Syrian Exporters Federation explained that a strategy for building and promotion of the economy and the industrial sectors started few months ago. A timetable was also set up for the advancement of export sectors; remove all legislative and technical obstacles.
