Economy Minister: New Investment Law … Umbrella for Economic Activity in Syria

DAMASCUS, (ST) -The Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Dr. Khider Orfali has underlined the need to work in the construction phase towards the achievement of economic development, raise the rates of growth, and fight against all forms of corruption and challenging conditions of the crisis in Syria.

The minister, during a meeting with the Board of Directors of the Development and Promotion of Exports Agency (DPEA), pointed to fair competition and economic participatory relations between the Syrian Exporters Federation, Chambers of Industry and Commerce to the benefit of the nation and citizen, explaining that the new investment law will be the umbrella for all aspects of economic activity in Syria and will work to streamline procedures and the reduction of routine.

Dr. Orfali noted that the participation of the DPEA in the Arab and international exhibitions represents a challenge to all those who seek to force Syria and its institutions, in spite of the unjust economic sanctions imposed on the country, stressing that Syria will be present and strongly in all exhibitions and prove its existence in all countries of the world.

For his part, Director General of Development and Promotion of Exports Agency, Ihab Ismander, confirmed that the Agency is working continuously to meet the demands of the Syrian exporters so that they can benefit the utmost support and incentives provided to them, explaining that the Agency has recently prepared studies to support both sides of technical and qualitative export work in Syria that suit the economic situation in Syria.

 “The number of textile companies participated recently at Syria Motex Beirut amounted to about 200 companies in addition to addressing about 800 invitations to businessmen, stressing that the exhibition was a window for communication between Syrian producers of clothing and their clients of Arab countries such as Yemen, Libya, Iraq, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon,” Mr.  Ismander clarified.

For his part, President of the Syrian Exporters Federation, Mazen Hammour, pointed out that the Federation is currently working to support the inventors adopting their business and provide financial support for the implementation of samples from their inventions and innovations to get ready for display or actual investment in industrial and commercial enterprises in Syria so as to provide the value of the foreign exchange that would have been spent on the import of the same equipment and gadgetries.

He pointed to the support of the Federation in collaboration with the associations of civil society to the ladies working in the field of industry and trade and contribution to the marketing of their products and their manual works to ensure a social decent level to them and contribute to the development of the quality of Syrian exports.
